Navigating life’s twists and turns

It’s been a while since I last wrote anything here - almost three years! While I’ve been continuing my work behind the scenes, the past year has been full of growth, reflection, and a lot of new beginnings. Here’s a quick update on where I’ve been, what I’m up to these days, and where things are going.

Motherhood

Personally, a lot has changed in the last few years. In 2023/2024, I went through IVF, and in early 2025, I became a mom! (I’m still on an indefinite social media hiatus, so no - you didn’t miss me posting about this!)

It’ll come as no surprise that parenthood has been one of the most profound, exhausting, and transformative transitions of my life. In the 9 months since my daughter was born, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about balance, and how our work and life boundaries evolve as we move through different seasons. I may have less space for uninterrupted deep work now, but there are also more opportunities to slow down, to notice, and to be present. This phase of life has been a lesson in flexibility, imperfection, and finding purpose in slowing down.

Shifting work

Professionally, things have evolved too. While I still do some coaching, these days most of my work hours go towards consulting and freelance writing. I love this work because it blends my love for communicating research and data, and allows me to engage in some creativity (and as a bonus, it’s easy to squeeze in at nap time!).

At the same time, I’ve had to scale back my one-on-one coaching practice. While I still work with a few clients, limited childcare hours have encouraged me to think about how to continue supporting academics and higher ed professionals in a way that’s both sustainable and genuinely helpful.

I kept returning to the idea of offering something more accessible, affordable, and available anytime, not just when I have openings on my calendar (which, admittedly, are quite limited these days).

Which brings me to…

Something new: RigorCheck

My latest project is RigorCheck: a tool designed to give researchers structured, actionable feedback on their manuscripts before submission. It focuses on evaluating a paper’s clarity, structure, and rigor without rewriting your work.

I created RigorCheck to address a gap many academics face (and I’ve experienced myself!): getting timely, quality feedback can be tricky when advisors are busy, collaborators are slow to respond, and it’s hard to know if your paper is really “ready” for submission after staring at it for so long. This tool is my way of continuing the work I’ve always done as a coach - helping academics clarify thinking, strengthen arguments, and move forward with confidence - but in a way that’s accessible anytime, without depending on my calendar.

I know a tool like this won’t be for everyone, and I completely get why. Academics often have thoughtful, sometimes complicated, relationships with AI, especially around authorship and integrity. RigorCheck is intentionally designed to honor those values by giving feedback without rewriting your work or producing new content. You remain fully in control of your ideas and your voice.

Right now, I’m piloting it with a small group of early-access users (want to be included? Contact me to learn more!). My hope is that it provides useful insights to the pilot users, while also helping me refine RigorCheck so it’s as practical and supportive as possible.

Thank you

If you’ve made it this far, thank you! I’m so grateful to everyone who’s been part of this community over the years, even through quiet seasons like this one. Looking forward to sharing more soon!
